Discover some of the best Cardiff Coffee… who knows you may even find a cheeky student discount or two…
Did you know that as of 2021, we drank approximately 98 million cups of coffee in the UK daily? Here at WOM, we’re firm believers in getting our caffeine fix to kick start the day, so we couldn’t let newcomers to Cardiff drink just any old instant coffee.
Now a little disclaimer, we’re no coffee snobs, nor are we coffee experts; we just like a good brew that sets us up for the day and the top 5 are based on some voting at WOM HQ
So, whether it’s catching up with friends for a bit of gossip, getting your caffeine fix before starting a big project or taking in the city, we want to direct any new students toward the rich caffeine-filled culture that Cardiff has to offer, so in no particular order – here we go.
Cardiff Central Market, Unit 25 – Opening Hours
Hardlines offers a variety of locations, and its main hub is located at the foot of The Garth mountain with two accompanying locations; one based in unit 25 in the historical Cardiff Market, providing passers-by with a little espresso bar for the on-the-go drinker and then the Canton location offering breakfast, lunch and coffee for those looking to enjoy their time and coffee alike.
The rich, smooth coffee roasted at the flagship location and spread across locations will tantalise your tastebuds. We would recommend asking about the seasonal espresso they have to offer. If not, the coffee selection here is vast and sustainably sourced from South American beans harvested in Brazil or Peru to varieties from Rwanda and Timor.
For meeting up with friends, our go-to order is a Filter coffee and their delicious Toasted banana bread to treat yourself after a hard week of work or maybe even a busy Friday night. click here
115 Queen St – Opening Hours
200 degrees, based at 115 Queen Street, has enriched the vibrant coffee scene within the heart of Cardiff. With locations based across the UK and their foothold roast house in Nottingham, they’ve conquered the UK market by delivering an outstanding brew.
Their innovative method of roasting coffee at a lower temperature gives us drinkers a smoother, deeper taste – and if we’re honest, it hits the spot.
This shop has its own on-site coffee roaster as well as a dedicated barista school upstairs so you can become the talk of your Uni halls with your swan art on a flat white, that’s if you want to be a show-off.
For tackling work, this coffee shop has the added bonus of meeting rooms you can boom for group work, and when it’s go time, we recommend you order the old but gold Flat White coffee; it offers condensed delicious fuel to keep you going for that hard-working stint. click here
13 High St – Opening Hours
Corner Coffee, based at 13 High Street, Cardiff, offers a quaint, vibrant shop with a variety of merchandise and coffee alike for you to choose from.
Corner Coffee offers a variety of brewing options for whichever takes your fancy, from Aeropress, Mokapot, and French Press to the Automatic Drip method – If you don’t know what they are, Corner Coffee can give you a guide for each one.
The flavours here alter based on the roast batch they have in, so we would recommend you ask in the shop for their opinion, but if you want ours, a classic Mocha never seems to miss the spot; the mix of childhood hot chocolate and espresso appears to do the job – that or the sugar and caffeine, but who knows. click here
4-5 Frederick St – Opening Hours
Located just from the city centre on Fredrick Street, Bigmoose Coffee company offer nice outdoor seating as well as indoor and a quieter upstairs space while also being dog-friendly outside.
Bigmoose Coffee made our list for more than just the coffee because it does more than coffee. The company supports the community by helping disadvantaged people, employing them, and developing their skills.
That’s not to take away from their menu, they offer a variety of food and drink, and their cappuccino with a hearty eggs royal is not to be taken lightly, and if that doesn’t do it for you, we’d suggest you take a look at their vegan options – excellent. click here
